My name is Shawn Galvin and I have been an Art Educator in New York City since 2003. I began my career teaching Studio Art, Advertising, and Typography at William H. Maxwell Career and Technical Education High School. One of my career goals was to teach all the grades, so after 6 years I was pleased to accept a position teaching elementary Art at PS 111. No matter what the age the formula for a quality Arts Education is always the same. Time to explore, freedom to create, knowledge of materials, literacy in the Arts based language, appreciation for Art History and ability to reflect and self assess.
I received a BFA in Painting and a BS in Art Ed from SUNY New Paltz, and a MS in Art Ed from Brooklyn College, but nothing has taught me more about Art and Art Education than creating Art with my many thousands of students over the years.
